Mr. Farb, curator of American Indian cultures at the Riverside Museum in New York City and a consultant to the Smithsonian Institution, is an anthropologist and historian. He is also a prolific writer; the book from which this article is excerpted is his twelfth. Entitled MAN’S RISE TO CIVILIZATION AS SHOWN BY THE INDIANS OF NORTH AMERICA FROM PRIMEVAL TIMES TO THE COMING OF THE INDUSTRIAL STATE , the book will be published this month by E. P. Dutton & Co., Inc., and will be a November selection of the Book-of-the-Month Club.
