The late James MacGregor Burns, winner of the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award for Roosevelt: The Soldier of Freedom, 1940-1945, served as a combat historian in World War II. He was Woodrow Wilson Professor Emeritus of Government at Williams College, and a Distinguished Leadership Scholar at the James MacGregor Burns Academy of Leadership at the University of Maryland.
His most recent book was Packing the Court: The Rise of Judicial Power and the Coming Crisis of the Supreme Court (Penguin Press 2009).
